A Group Subscription owns a pool of floating licenses that are managed by an administrative account tied to the subscription. These floating licenses can be easily installed on individual computers to obtain full access to the site.

A Group Subscription is perfect for engineering teams, research labs, and other groups of engineers who want to share access to the software.

A floating license may be shared betweeen multiple users. However, the number of licenses in your pool determines the number of people who can use the software simultaneously. So if a single person uses the software about 20% of the day (a reasonable estimate), this means that approximately 5 people could be expected to share one floating license.

There are no obligations -- you can cancel the subscription at any time. If you do cancel, your account will remain active until the end of the billing period.

How Do Floating Licenses Work?

A group account is tied to an administrator who manages a floating license pool. The administrator sends license keys to the individual users in the group to allow them to "check out" floating licenses to use the software. You can send the license key to as many people as you like; however, the number of licenses in your pool determines the number of users that can access the software simultaneously.

The license key is sent to the individual users in the form of a URL link (this will typically be sent via email). When a user clicks on the key link (or pastes the link into a browser's address bar), it will cause a license token to be installed in the browser of the computer that they are currently working on. When the user goes to the MechaniCalc site using that browser, the site will detect that there is a license token installed and will attempt to log the user in. As long as there are available licenses in your group's pool, the login will be successful. If all of your group's licenses are currently in use, then they will see a message stating that all licenses are in use and to try back later.

When a user is logged in using a floating license key, they "check out" that license. The license is checked back into the pool after 1 hour of inactivity or after the user logs out of the site. Floating licenses can be installed on as many devices as you like, so each user could install a license token on multiple computers.

As the administrator, you have the ability to update the license credentials whenever you like, which will invalidate any license keys that you had previously sent out. You could then send out the new license key to all of the intended users. It is a good idea to update the license credentials periodically to ensure that your license keys haven't "leaked out" to unintended users.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a Group Subscription cost?

A Group Subscription can be purchased for USD $299.99 per year per license, or for USD $29.99 per month per license. There are no additional fees, and there are no contracts. You can cancel any time you like.

How do I sign up for a Group Subscription?

Simply go to the registration page, enter the required details, and you will receive immediate access to the software.

Why choose a Group Subscription rather than an Individual Subscription?

The advantage of a Group Subscription over an Individual Subscription is that group licenses can be shared between multiple users. If you have a large group of people who all need access to MechaniCalc, then a Group Subscription can result in a significant cost savings. Additionally, having a pool of floating licenses can be less of a headache in the case where the specific group of users that need access to the software changes over time.

How does the floating license pool work?

A group account is tied to an administrator who manages a floating license pool. The administrator can send "key links" to the intended users (this will typically be sent via email). When a user clicks on the key link, it will install a key on that user's computer. The key will allow that user to "check out" a license from the pool on an as-needed basis. More details are provided in the section above.

How does your billing work?

You pay for service at the start of the subscription period. After your payment, you will have full access to all calculators and other content on the MechaniCalc website for the duration of the period that you paid for.

If you signed up for a monthly or an annual subscription, your plan will be renewed automatically at the end of your period unless you have cancelled your subscription. If you signed up for a semester subscription, your account will expire at the end of the period.

How do you handle my credit card information?

We use a secure, PCI-certified third party, Stripe, to handle all credit card transactions. Your credit card information is never stored on the MechaniCalc website.

What is your cancellation policy?

There are absolutely no obligations -- you can cancel your subscription at any time. If you do cancel, your account will remain active until the end of your subscription period. You won't receive any further charges after cancelling your subscription.

Can I change my plan later on?

If you start out on a monthly plan, you can upgrade to an annual plan at any time.

All Subscription Types

You can subscribe as either an individual or as a group. Both subscription types receive the same benefits and access levels -- the only difference is that group accounts utilize floating licenses that can be shared between multiple users. Please contact us if you have any questions.
